Mount Teide Summit – sunrise, daily & sunset tours by Tenerife – Adventures.
Teide – the 3rd largest volcano in the world
Teide is the symbol of Tenerife and is the highest point in Spain at 3,715 metres and the third largest volcano in the world, after the Hawaiian volcanoes. Teide is an impressive sight in itself, both from the ocean and from the surrounding Canary Islands or the beaches of Tenerife. It is interesting to note that the Pico del Teide was used by the Spanish conquistadors to help them to navigate. There are several options for climbing and hiking Teide summit.
Let’s start at the beginning…
The Teide summit conquest tour is literally a bucket-list item, as the only way to get to the top is by hiking / on foot, wearing the right hiking boots. However, there is a choice of difficulty levels. First of all, plan your holiday and rent a car (without a car, you can only do the crowded bus tours), then head up to the Teide National Park, to the crater, where you can admire lava fields and huge lava rocks and formations of extraordinary colours. Continue to the parking lot of Teleferico. From here, the full Teide summit conquest tour starts.
- Easy tour to Mount Teide summit
The easiest Teide summit hike is a combination of the Teleferico & a hiking tour. You can reach the top of Teide from 2400 metres altitude in just 1 hour. First we take the Teleferico cable car and then a guided tour to Teide peak. The question may arise, do we need a guide? The answer is not always. If you have a permit to the summit than not. However keep in mind you can get the permission to Teide summit only several months in advance, and experience has shown that places are selling out very quickly, with 2-3 months almost certainly leaving only the guided tour as an option. The trek goes during the day, morning, mid-morning or early afternoon. Other info is available here.

- Intermediate / Hard tour to Mount Teide summit
The start of the hike is essentially the same as for the easy hike. You can take the Teleferico cable car up to an altitude of 3550 metres, from where you can hike up to the top of Teide with a guide and a permit. A special feature of the hike is that after reaching the summit, there is another 12-14 km hike, and the sunset is on the downhill section of the hike, at or near another of Tenerife’s magnificent volcanoes, Pico de Viejo. As the sun sets, we can see the islands of La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro in the distance, and then we are accompanied by the different wonderful colours, shades of blue, orange and pink. During the tour, all the constellations of the southern hemisphere except the full moon and the Milky Way system will appear above us. Light pollution is not a concept here. The tour is from 15:00 – 23:00. This is a spectacular experience, but also a tiring hike, recommended only for regular hikers. Details below:

- Extreme guided hiking tour to Teide Summit
To go on extreme trekking you need great determination and mountain trekking experience. Why? We start at night and hike from 2400m up to 3500m to the base camp, where we rest and then climb to Teide at sunrise. You don’t need a permit here, but don’t do it alone. Only go with a group of trained mountain guides, as they are the ones who will help you in extreme situations. The weather is very variable and there is a constant oxygen “shortage”, so imagine a more extreme circumstance. From the top of Mount Teide, you can admire the shadow of one of the world’s largest volcanic cones, which stretches across the Atlantic Ocean, for the first time every day. It is the most extraordinary sunrise spot in Tenerife. A sporting background and preparation are required for this tour. However, after a strenuous hike, you can go down by Teleferico cable car.
